Belgrade-headquartered Pixelnetica recently unveiled its next generation scanning software that it says will help companies reduce their maintenance and development costs.
The updated software allows images to be taken with higher precision and minimizes human error.
“By using our toolkit, companies can reduce their development and maintenance costs while releasing the final product sooner,” Dmitry Harchenko, president of Pixelnetica, told Balkan Business Wire in an email.
The document imaging software development kit (SDK) is a computer component that can be used in any mobile application. Its main purpose is to provide paper document scanning ability to any mobile application, Harchenko said.
He cited the example of one client, the medical insurance company, Finance Fox, which described SDK as “a vital tool” that sets the firm apart from other insurance-related apps.
“It gives our customers the advantage of being able to send their medical bills to the insurance company anytime, anywhere, conveniently from their smartphone,” Finance Fox testified in a statement released by Pixelnetica. “This saves our customers a lot of time and hassle they would otherwise have with paperwork. It also provides more clarity, as all documents can be gathered digitally within the app, so that all the relevant information is in one place."
Harchenko said that after users take an image of the paper document, the app detects the borders. The app then crops it to the proper boundaries, and corrects, cleans and converts to the required color space. The results are then saved in the necessary format.
Among Pixelnetica’s clients are financial, insurance, document workflow providers and transportation companies. Current and potential clients also include firms with existing mobile solutions that want to provide additional value to their customers, solution providers and mobile application developers.
“The main value of our product is that our clients can save money and time by not having to develop (and further support) highly complicated computer vision technology," Harchenko said. "Instead, they can purchase a ready-to-use component that could be easily plugged into their mobile application."
The new elements contained in the second generation app include a new document detection algorithm that works faster with higher precision, permitting a smartphone camera to automatically take images while minimizing human errors.
Pixelnetica updated document imaging SDK for Android 2.0 includes an improved document detection module optimized to work in real time. Documents can now be saved in Adobe PDF format in addition to previously supported PNG, JPG and TIFF G4. Smart camera and smart crop modules are updated to support touch-free document image capturing,
The new SDK includes an updated demo app with full source as well. The demo app now includes everything required to build fully featured mobile document workflow applications, as well as real-time capturing and processing modules, the company said. Customers may also use the demo app to quickly build their own solutions.
