Twenty Zrenjanin organizations including schools, businesses and IT groups recently established an information technology-focused project called Zrenjaninski ICT cluster.

The founders of the cluster hope it will become one of the key IT centers in Serbia within five years. During that time, they aim to train 1,000 people to work in information technology.

The cluster is made up of 20 leaders from educational institutions, the business community and eight IT companies already operating in Zrenjanin. All members of the new cluster will help educate future IT professionals.

The grammar school in Zrenjanin has created IT departments, and the “Mihajlo Pupin” Technical Facility at the University of Novi Sad has started offering classes for those in primary and secondary schools. One IT center, Startit Centara, will open in Zrenjanin early this year.

Startit Centara is designed to boost development of a thriving IT community. An existing WordPress community and the ICT cluster indicate IT is already beginning to thrive in the region.
