Wizz Air announced the expansion of its operations at Varna Airport with the addition of a second aircraft to its base. During an official event marking the arrival of the first flight from Abu Dhabi to Varna, the airline revealed its plans to resume three routes from Varna to Frankfurt-Hahn, Nuremberg, and Tel Aviv. Furthermore, Wizz Air will increase the frequency of its flights to five popular destinations from Varna. Starting April 29, the airline will also introduce a year-round route to Leipzig, Germany, which will operate twice a week.

Anastasia Novak, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, remarked on their investment: “Welcoming our second aircraft in Varna is an extremely exciting moment for our entire team. This is not only an investment in expanding our network, but also in the local economy, tourism industry and the connectivity of Varna with Europe and beyond.”

Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, commented on the development: “We are very much welcoming the return of the second based aircraft of Wizzair and the related increase of traffic volume and connections! It is an important step for the whole Black Sea Region in Bulgaria, both for its connectivity and the tourism! A very special development are the flights to Abu Dhabi! We have been working for years to reconnect the Gulf Region and we are very happy Wizz Air takes this step!”

In addition to the new routes, Varna Airport will offer increased flight frequencies to destinations such as Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Hamburg, and Brussels Charleroi, starting April 14. Tickets for these flights are available on Wizz Air’s website and mobile application.

Since opening its summer base in Varna in 2017, Wizz Air has transported over four million passengers to and from the city, establishing connections to 13 destinations across six countries. The airline’s collaboration with Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD is noted as a key factor in its success within the Bulgarian market.

The event featured officials such as Alexa Weber, Marketing and Communications Manager at Wizz Air, Dr. Frank Quante, Regional Governor Prof. Dr. Andriyana Andreeva, and the Deputy Mayor of Varna Municipality, Snezhana Apostolova, all of whom expressed optimism about the airline’s impact on the regional economy and tourism.
