Varna Airport, managed by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, marked a significant milestone on August 5 by welcoming its one millionth passenger for 2025. The event took place in the morning when Gerhard Peshke and his family arrived from Frankfurt on a Discover Airlines flight that landed at 08:30.

To commemorate the occasion, Peshke received a branded suitcase as a gift. All passengers on the arriving flight were given traditional Bulgarian lavender oil souvenirs and custom-made cookies. The airport organized a water salute and decorated the terminal with balloons to celebrate.

Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, has been operating flights to Varna since May 2022. Over three years, it has transported nearly 90,000 passengers between Varna and its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, with more than 600 flights completed. In 2024, Discover Airlines introduced direct summer flights from Munich to Varna. For summer 2025, flights from Frankfurt will increase to four times per week and will continue into winter with two weekly flights, allowing year-round access to the Lufthansa Group network.

Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, commented:
“Today’s celebration is not just about numbers – it is about the trust and loyalty of our passengers, the strength of our partnerships, and the growing importance of Varna as a gateway to Bulgaria’s coast. We are proud to mark this achievement together with Discover Airlines and thank them for their trust and commitment to the Bulgarian market.”

Discover Airlines recently reached its own milestone by welcoming its ten millionth passenger last month as it celebrated four years since founding. The airline operates a fleet of 30 aircraft connecting around 60 destinations in over 20 countries across Europe, North America, and Africa.

The event at Varna Airport recognized both airline partner achievements and highlighted efforts by airport staff toward enhancing passenger experience.
