The SA Thessaloniki Port Authority (THPA SA) of Greece recently signed
a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki’s Polytechnic School that will see them cooperate on developing
port and transport programs of study.
The project, which THPA SA sees as a significant corporate
social responsibility undertaking, will develop undergraduate and graduate
education opportunities in line with port operations, as well as an
interdisciplinary graduate program that will educate students on port
management and facilities. THPA SA and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
intend to promote education, training, employment research and innovation in the
port industry. Their joint educational efforts will be linked with select
European ports and educational and research institutions.
Specifically, the MoU covers three broad initiatives and
activities. THPA SA will strengthen its position as an advancer of economic
development, innovation and research activities related to port operations,
including modern technologies now used in workplace and environmental health
and safety. In its pursuit of this, THPA SA will collaborate with the Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki’s Polytechnic School, a major educational and
research institution. The two organizations will work together to reverse the
“brain drain,” creating incentives for young professionals to stay in the
country.
