Romanian National Bank issued the following announcement on Aug. 3.
According to the provisions of Law no.312 / 2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, starting August 6, 2018 , the National Bank of Romania will launch in the numismatic circuit a silver coin with the theme of 150 years since the birth of Emil Racovita.
The characteristics of the coin are as follows:
- nominal value: 10 lei ;
- metal: silver ;
- title: 999 ‰;
- shape: round ;
- diameter : 37 mm;
- weight: 31.103 g;
- quality: proof ;
- notch: jagged .
The obverse of the coin shows a composition that includes, in the foreground, a vintage image from the Antarctic expedition of the Belgica and the inscription “Expedition of the ship BELGICA”, and in the second plan, a partial image of the Institute of Speleology in Cluj, founded by Emil Racovita; the circular arc inscription “ROMANIA”, the denomination “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the issue year “2018”.
The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of Emil Racovita, the inscription in the circle arch “EMIL RACOVITA” and the years between which he lived, “1868”, “1947”.
Silver coins, packed in transparent methacrylate capsules, will be accompanied by presentation brochures written in Romanian, English and French. The brochures include the certificate of authenticity of the issue, which contains the signatures of the NBR governor and the central cashier.
The circulation for this issue is 200 coins of silver.
The selling price, exclusive of VAT, for the silver coin, including the presentation brochure is 360.00 lei.
The silver coins with the theme of 150 years since the birth of Emil Racovita have circulatory power on the territory of Romania.
The coinage of these silver coins in the numismatic circuit is realized through the branches of Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi and Timis of the National Bank of Romania.
