The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) is working to strengthen the strategic partnership between Romania and South Korea in the defense industry. The organization is focusing on creating new investment opportunities and encouraging collaboration between the two countries.
Following a visit by CCIR President Mihai Daraban to Seoul from June 10 to 12, 2025, a delegation from South Korea visited Romania. This group included representatives from major Korean defense companies and was led by Byungro Choi, Vice President of the Korea Defense Industry Association (KDIA). The delegation visited the National Institute for Aerospace Research and Development “Elie Carafoli” (INCAS).
According to CCIR, this visit was organized at its proposal as part of ongoing efforts to help identify Romanian industries and companies that could be involved in subcontracting various projects that Korean investors plan to develop in Romania’s defense sector. CCIR also stated that it aims to ensure a steady process for issuing necessary permits so that investment plans can move forward as scheduled.
The meeting at INCAS also served as preparation for the upcoming Romania-Korea Defense Industry Day economic forum, which will take place on June 19. This event, hosted by CCIR, will bring together representatives from both countries’ defense industries with the goal of building sustainable partnerships.
“The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) continues to facilitate and consolidate the strategic partnership with the Republic of Korea in the defense industry sector, by mediating new investment opportunities and bilateral collaborations.”
“The visit, organized at CCIR’s proposal, is part of the continuation of the National Chamber’s efforts to mediate and, at the same time, facilitate the process of identifying and selecting Romanian industries and companies that will be involved in subcontracting a complex series of works and operations that Korean investors intend to implement in Romania in the defense industry. Additionally, the role assumed by CCIR is to ensure a sustained and adequate pace regarding the process of issuing the necessary permits to fulfill the proposed investment schedule.”
“Last but not least, today’s meeting held at INCAS also has a preparatory character for the Romania-Korea Defense Industry Day economic forum that will be hosted by CCIR on June 19, an event that will bring together representatives of the Romanian defense industry with their South Korean counterparts, thus facilitating the development of concrete and sustainable partnerships.”
