During an economic mission to Japan, Mihai Daraban, President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), met with key Japanese economic institutions to explore new opportunities for cooperation within the Romania-Japan Strategic Partnership.
Mr. Daraban held discussions at the Tokyo headquarters of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was joined by Hitoshi Ito, President of the organization, as well as Katsuya Igarashi, General Director of the International Division, and other members of their management team.
“Romania can become an ideal platform for Japanese investors, considering Romanian consumers’ openness to Japanese brands and our strategic geographical position. The Port of Constanța offers direct access to Southeast European markets and represents an ideal entry point for Japanese products to the entire region. Our relationship with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, consolidated through the 1997 collaboration agreement, represents a solid foundation for expanding bilateral economic cooperation,” stated CCIR President Mr. Mihai Daraban.
In addition to these meetings, Mr. Daraban also met with representatives from the Japan Institute for Overseas Investment (JIOI), which promotes and facilitates Japanese investments abroad. Their talks focused on Romania’s location in the Black Sea region and highlighted how the Port of Constanța could serve as a hub for Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.
“We have excellent collaboration with JIOI regarding promoting Romania as an investment destination for Japanese companies. Japan’s involvement in the naval industry is very well known, through investments in construction works of the container terminal in the Port of Constanța, but also in the design and execution of the bridge over the Danube at Brăila. In the context of Ukraine’s reconstruction, this previous experience can be a catalyst for new Japanese investments in Romania,” emphasized the CCIR President.
