The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) has taken on a new role as a member of the General Council of the World Chambers Federation (WCF), part of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). This development was announced following the participation of CCIR’s General Secretary, Ovidiu Silaghi, at the 14th Congress of the WCF held in Melbourne, Australia from September 2 to 4, 2025.

During his visit to Australia, Silaghi met with several business leaders including Jason Collins, CEO of the European Australian Business Council; Peter Horn, CEO of AUSTRADE; Nola Watson, President of ICC Australia; and Lyall Gorman, Vice President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Silaghi outlined CCIR’s objectives for its mandate within the WCF. “CCIR’s objectives for the current mandate are in perfect alignment with the priorities of the World Chambers Federation. We are actively involved in supporting Romanian entrepreneurs who wish to expand their businesses beyond the country’s borders, even in these difficult times. In the context of current challenges to the international trade system, overshadowed by the war in Ukraine, as well as other factors negatively influencing international markets, CCIR promotes cooperation over destructive competition. Our prosperity depends on an open, rules-based economic system under fair competition conditions. Our main objectives must be to strengthen global value chains against current and future disruptions,” stated Silaghi.

The WCF is a non-political and non-governmental body within the ICC. It was established in 1951 as the International Bureau of Chambers of Commerce with a mission to support and unify chambers worldwide. The General Council works to highlight chambers’ roles as intermediaries between governments and businesses as well as between businesses and society.
