The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) organized the second Romania-Brazil Business Forum on September 18, 2025, in Bucharest. The event gathered representatives from more than 35 Brazilian companies spanning 25 sectors to meet with their Romanian counterparts. The forum aimed to strengthen economic ties between Romania and Brazil.

A key topic at the forum was the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, a South American trade bloc consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

During his opening remarks, CCIR President Mihai Daraban highlighted the significance of this agreement: “At the level of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Eurochambres), we have already decided to support the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. We know there are certain fears from some states regarding the entry into force of this agreement, but competition should not frighten anyone. Everyone wants to be the only one in the market when they produce something, but this, obviously, is not possible. I am firmly convinced that the EU-Mercosur trade agreement will be a step forward in business development at the European Union level.”

The Ambassador of Brazil to Romania, Ricardo Guerra de Araujo, also addressed concerns about agricultural imports resulting from such an agreement: “there is considerable misunderstanding regarding this trade agreement. In the agricultural sector especially, several states have expressed fear that the market will be flooded with agricultural products from South America. I don’t believe this; the opportunities and benefits that will result from this agreement will be greater than the challenges that will be felt by certain economic sectors. At the moment, between Romania and Brazil there is a trade value of under 500 million euros, the real potential being one billion euros annually.”

The forum provided an opportunity for both countries’ business communities to discuss ways to expand bilateral commerce.
