Panama City, March 3, 2025: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. This agreement was formalized during an economic mission in Central America.

The memorandum was signed by Mihai Daraban, President of the CCIR, and Juan A. Arias, President of the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. The signing ceremony was attended by Manuel Pleșa, Romanian Ambassador to Colombia, and Carlos Ruiz Hernandez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama. The document aims to strengthen business relations between Romania and Panama and outlines guidelines for facilitating bilateral trade.

Mihai Daraban commented on the significance of this memorandum: “The signing of this memorandum is a natural consequence of the discussions held with the Panamanian side, in which industries with high development potential were identified, in which the Romanian business environment can successfully get involved. Thus, the energy industry, the transport industry, which includes maritime and railway transport, the civil construction and infrastructure industry, the IT industry, the aeronautical and defense industry and last but not least the tourism industry represent real business opportunities for the Romanian business environment.”

Juan A. Arias noted that “after several years in which Romanian companies had an insignificant presence on the markets of Central and South America,” this economic mission marks a new beginning for collaboration between Romania and Panama. He emphasized that both countries have strong port industries that could position them as commercial hubs for Europe and Latin America.
