The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) has released its annual National Top Companies 2025 ranking, highlighting the performance of Romania’s leading businesses. The ranking is based on an analysis of 917,881 financial statements and covers seven sectors: industry, services, trade, tourism, research-development and high-tech, agriculture-forestry-fisheries, and construction.
A total of 13,078 companies placed in the top 10 positions within their respective categories. These companies collectively achieved a turnover exceeding 287 billion euros—a rise of 6.07% compared to the previous year. Operating profit also saw growth, increasing by 1.37% to reach 25.9 billion euros. This represents about 9% of the total turnover.
Employment figures showed improvement as well. The companies ranked in the top positions employ a combined total of 1,393,055 people—an increase of 3.77% from the prior period.
“The figures from the National Top Companies 2025 speak for themselves. We have over 6% growth in turnover, nearly 1.4 million employees in top companies, and a constant expansion in the number of jobs. These results demonstrate that Romania’s economic situation is far from being as gloomy as is sometimes portrayed in public discourse. The Romanian business environment proves its adaptability. Our companies continue to invest, hire, and generate profit. The nearly 4% increase in the number of employees is a very important signal—the Romanian economy is not just surviving, but creating opportunities,” stated CCIR President Mr. Mihai Daraban.
Within the sectoral breakdown by company numbers, industry accounts for about one-third (34.41%) while services represent just under one-third (28.83%). In terms of turnover share among these sectors, trade leads with almost half (43.98%), followed by industry (32.83%) and services (13.14%). Industry remains notably profitable; it generates more than one-third (38.68%) of all profits among ranked firms and posts a profit margin above ten percent.
The National Top Companies ranking has been conducted annually by CCIR since 1994 and is considered an authoritative benchmark for business performance across Romania’s main economic sectors.
