The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, met with H.E. Rim Kap-soo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Romania, on November 13, 2024. The meeting aimed to continue discussions about implementing joint economic projects across various sectors.

Romania and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations in 1990 and have maintained consistent cooperation since then. A strategic partnership was formed in 2008, which was further strengthened by a joint Declaration during a presidential meeting in Seoul in April 2024. The dialogue between CCIR and the Korean Embassy is advancing towards attracting investments to Romania, focusing on new production lines and internationalizing Romanian businesses.

Mihai Daraban noted, “The South Korean partners proved to be extremely receptive to the economic information we sent them during the previous meetings, and today’s event is a new stage in the intention to start new investments in Romania.” He highlighted several fields with high investment potential: defense industry, energy industry with an emphasis on nuclear energy, logistics, transport, and port infrastructure. He emphasized that attracting foreign investments is crucial for reducing the trade deficit and achieving long-term economic growth.

Ambassador Rim Kap-Soo acknowledged CCIR’s role as a stable partner for developing economic relations between Romania and Korea. “Once again, through the information provided, the CCIR proved that it remains a stable partner in terms of the development of economic relations between the two states,” he said. He also mentioned that such meetings have led to governmental-level strategies aligning with their partnership policy with Romania.
