The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), together with the Indian Embassy in Bucharest and the Federation of Indian Export Organizations, held the Romania-India Business Forum on June 5. The event aimed to strengthen economic ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration between Romanian and Indian companies.
Ovidiu Silaghi, General Secretary of CCIR, highlighted recent growth in trade between the two countries. “In 2024, trade between Romania and India grew to approximately 1 billion euros. Romania maintains a positive trade balance in services, exporting nearly 155 million euros to India, of which 24 million in IT and software services. This opens a pathway for cooperation in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and innovation. Romania offers attractive conditions for investments; there are 94 industrial parks covering over 3,200 hectares and modern infrastructure. The strategic location of Constanța Port as a Black Sea hub consolidates Romania’s role as a gateway for Indian exports to Europe. CCIR reaffirms its support for business cooperation between our countries. We are confident that today’s forum will encourage new dialogue and future business prospects for companies.”
Indian Ambassador to Romania Manika Jain also spoke at the forum about ongoing progress in bilateral relations: “India and Romania share a strong and growing relationship. In recent years, trade links between the two states have intensified, reflecting a common commitment to lasting economic collaboration, which has been based on continuous dialogue with CCIR, an organization that has permanently supported us in all our economic endeavors. We have managed to strengthen economic relations with both Romania and Moldova, in industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, and industrial equipment.”
The forum is part of efforts by both countries to expand cooperation not only in traditional sectors but also emerging fields like IT services.
