Today, Pegasus Airlines launched its first direct flight between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport and Ljubljana Airport. The Turkish low-cost airline will operate the new route three times a week, offering more travel options for business and leisure passengers.
Dr. Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenia, commented on the development: “After an exceptionally successful year 2025, during which we served almost 1.6 million passengers, Ljubljana Airport is entering the new year with strong momentum. The numerous capacity increases announced for 2026 show that Ljubljana Airport is becoming an increasingly competitive, attractive, and reliable starting point for air travel. One of these is today’s arrival of a new carrier, Pegasus Airlines, which is an important addition for our passengers and at the same time a testament to the attractiveness of the Slovenian market. We are confident that the new route will further strengthen economic and tourism ties between Slovenia and Turkey.”
Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines, also addressed the launch: “We are excited to launch new direct flights connecting Istanbul with Ljubljana, as part of our continued expansion across Europe. Ljubljana is a vibrant and increasingly popular destination, and this direct route will make travel between Türkiye and Slovenia more accessible than ever. Pegasus is committed to offering our guests a continually seamless experience onboard our modern fleet. Each new route expands freedom of movement for our passengers while contributing to tourism, trade and social connectivity across the region.”
The service will run on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays using a 186-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. Tickets are available via www.flypgs.com/en and through the airline’s mobile app starting from EUR 49 one way.
Pegasus Airlines connects over 150 destinations worldwide from its hub in Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul. The airline offers onward connections to regions including Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Ljubljana Airport expects further growth in 2026 with additional routes planned by other airlines. easyJet will begin flying to Edinburgh in April; Wizz Air will add flights to Podgorica in June alongside existing Skopje services; Iberia will extend its seasonal Madrid-Ljubljana flights beginning in June; Vueling will continue summer operations to Barcelona; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Swiss International Airlines plan to increase frequencies on their Amsterdam and Zurich routes respectively with improved scheduling.
These developments follow a year where nearly 1.6 million passengers passed through Ljubljana Airport in 2025.
