On June 4, Mihai Daraban, President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), attended the second edition of the Iași Economic Forum. The event was organized by the Iași Chamber of Commerce and Industry and took place over two days.

The forum is considered the largest platform for engaging with businesses in Romania’s North-East region. It aims to strengthen the strategic importance of this area within Romania’s economy and to establish Iași as a significant economic and logistics center in the European Union.

During his remarks, Mr. Daraban emphasized CCIR’s ongoing support for business development and internationalization while maintaining its political independence. He stated: “CCIR reaffirms its commitment to support the business environment in the internationalization and development process, maintaining the political independence that has characterized us for the last 35 years. We are ready for constructive dialogue with the authorities, but this dialogue must be based on real knowledge of economic realities and on clear separation of the agendas of different categories of enterprises. Political decision-makers must recognize the importance of CCIR and genuinely involve this organization in the process of developing economic policies. Romania needs an authentic partnership between the public and private sectors to valorize its full economic potential and to become truly competitive in the international market. As the only private entity in Romania that is a member of the World Tourism Organization and with experience hosting over 50 heads of state and government in the last 25 years, CCIR can play the most effective role in the country’s economic diplomacy. This international recognition gives us direct access to high-level decision-makers from around the world, but the lack of real dialogue with Romanian authorities limits the valorization of opportunities for the business environment,” stated CCIR President Mr. Mihai Daraban.

The forum highlighted ongoing concerns about cooperation between public institutions and organizations representing private enterprise in Romania.
