Ljubljana Airport saw notable growth in 2025, serving nearly 1.6 million passengers, a 10.6% increase compared to the previous year. December marked the highest monthly growth, with an 18.7% rise over December 2024 and more than 101,000 travelers passing through the airport. The busiest period was during July and August, when monthly passenger numbers exceeded 180,000.
Dr. Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenija, commented on the results: “The exceptionally successful year of 2025, in which we served nearly 1.6 million passengers, is the result of long-term, systematic efforts to expand our network of destinations and constantly improve the user experience. Numerous reinforcements already announced for 2026 confirm that Ljubljana Airport is becoming an increasingly competitive, attractive, and reliable starting point for air travel, successfully connecting Slovenia to the world and opening doors to new opportunities.”
Travelers most frequently used established European hubs such as Istanbul, Frankfurt, Zurich, Amsterdam, and London. Charter flights remained popular for holiday travel to destinations including Hurghada, Antalya, Tunisia, Sharm El Sheikh, and Rhodes.
Looking ahead to summer 2026, airlines plan to add new routes and increase capacity at Ljubljana Airport. Pegasus Airlines will start flights to Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul later this month. In April easyJet will introduce a route to Edinburgh while Wizz Air plans an additional connection to Podgorica in June alongside its existing Skopje service.
Iberia will extend its seasonal Madrid-Ljubljana service with flights twice weekly from early June through September’s end. Vueling will continue operating flights to Barcelona during the summer schedule.
Other carriers are also set to strengthen their presence at Ljubljana Airport in 2026. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has offered daily flights between Ljubljana and Amsterdam since March 2025; Swiss International Airlines connects with Zurich. Both plan morning departures and evening returns in their summer schedules for improved connectivity.
airBaltic will add another weekly flight on its Riga route; Aegean Airlines (Athens), flydubai (Dubai), British Airways (London Heathrow), and Wizz Air (Skopje) are increasing frequencies as well. Lufthansa intends to use larger aircraft on routes serving Frankfurt and Munich.
Fraport Slovenija expects these developments will lead to stable passenger growth in 2026 and further enhance Ljubljana Airport’s regional role.
