Slovenia is set to host a significant basketball event on August 24, 2024, marking the farewell game of Goran Dragić, a celebrated Slovenian basketball player. The event, named ‘I Feel Slovenia Night of the Dragon,’ will feature numerous renowned basketball stars and serve as an opportunity to promote Slovenia’s tourism and business sectors. The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) and SPIRIT Slovenia have partnered as national supporters to enhance the event’s impact.

MSc. Maja Pak Olaj, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, stated: “Our world-class athletes inspire us and make us proud. They embody the values of the I Feel Slovenia brand—courage, perseverance, innovation, and a love of nature.” She emphasized that the event provides a unique platform to showcase Slovenia globally.

Rok Capl, Director of SPIRIT Slovenia, remarked: “Slovenian athletes are excellent ambassadors for our country… We believe in the strong synergies between sport and business.” He highlighted the potential for promoting Slovenia’s economy during this high-profile sporting occasion.

Goran Dragić expressed his sentiments: “Playing for Slovenia has always held a special place in my heart… My primary goal with this event is to support young athletes from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.”

The event will take place at Stožice in Ljubljana and will also feature Luka Dončić, another ambassador for Slovenian tourism. Leading up to and during the event, promotional activities by STB will aim to highlight Slovenia as a top-tier tourist destination. Simultaneously, SPIRIT Slovenia will host an international business gathering called ‘Business Talk’ on August 23.

SPIRIT Slovenia has been active in integrating sports with economic promotion through its campaign ‘I Feel Slovenia. Green. Creative. Smart.’ Meanwhile, STB continues its efforts to position Slovenia as a premier sports destination through various initiatives and partnerships with notable athletes.

In addition to celebrating Dragić’s career, the event focuses on charitable causes supported by his foundation. Proceeds will benefit young athletes from disadvantaged backgrounds through initiatives like Botrstvo v športu.
