In December 2025 and January 2026, Fraport Slovenia achieved several milestones as part of its FS-e-FUTURE project at Ljubljana Airport. The project is focused on building infrastructure to help electrify and reduce the carbon footprint of ground handling services by the end of 2026.

The construction of a new transformer station, TP-4, was completed at the end of December 2025. The substation has been connected to the power grid and is expected to provide enough electricity for charging electric vehicles and powering other equipment used in ground operations.

In late January 2026, Fraport Slovenia also put into service a new charging station for electric vehicles. This facility includes a fast DC charger capable of charging two vehicles at once. Additionally, 20 smart AC charging stations and 15 connection points for vehicles with built-in chargers have been installed inside the aircraft maintenance hangar.

At the end of 2025, the airport received its first three mobile electric ground power units (GPUs) for supplying external power to aircraft. These units feature industrial-grade batteries and are intended to replace diesel-powered generators with zero-emission alternatives. They are designed to provide electricity to aircraft parked in areas where fixed GPUs are not available.

“The project aims to install key infrastructure to support the electrification and decarbonisation of our ground handling services at Ljubljana Airport by the end of 2026.”
