Eurowings has inaugurated direct flights from Ljubljana Airport to Düsseldorf. The new service operates three times a week and offers passengers the opportunity to connect through the airline’s network of 110 direct routes from Düsseldorf, which include popular European holiday destinations and capitals.
The launch event at Ljubljana Airport was marked by a water salute and a gathering attended by dignitaries such as Dr. Babett Stapel, Managing Director of Fraport Slovenia, Tomaž Pečnik from the Ministry of Infrastructure, and Eurowings representatives Kevin Berisha, Ioannis Adamidis, Pavlos Petsalakis, and Louis Murselovic.
Flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the summer flight schedule, extending until the end of October. They will be using Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, with a flight time of approximately one hour and 40 minutes.
Dr. Babett Stapel expressed enthusiasm about the new route saying, “We are excited to welcome Eurowings as a new carrier, offering passengers a regular air route between Ljubljana and Düsseldorf.” She emphasized the cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Slovenia’s state incentives for improved air connectivity, expecting it to attract both business and leisure travelers.
Slovenia’s state incentives under the Public Call for Improved Air Connectivity have already led to new routes like Luxair to Luxembourg, airBaltic to Riga, and Norwegian to Copenhagen. Tomaž Pečnik noted, “Establishing the Düsseldorf-Ljubljana-Düsseldorf air connection is the result of the sixth public call for subsidizing airport fees at Ljubljana Airport.” He highlighted the growth of air travel in Slovenia, with Ljubljana Airport now offering flights to 26 destinations.
Düsseldorf is both a business hub and a tourist destination, featuring an attractive old town, high-quality museums, and a scenic promenade along the Rhine. Reinald Frankewitz of Eurowings commented, “With the new flight from Düsseldorf to Ljubljana, we are expanding our network to include another important business and leisure route.”
The summer of 2025 is set to break records at Ljubljana Airport, with 24 airlines operating flights to 26 destinations and more than 170 scheduled flights per week, along with numerous charter flights to 52 holiday destinations.
