The European Commission is boosting support of Burkina Faso with a $124 million financing agreement for food security and agricultural projects.

This program is part of an $848 million support program announced in December.

“This new budgetary support will enable the government of Burkina Faso to continue implementing its National Development Plan, which the European Union is supporting with a contribution of ($848 million),”

European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, said in a statement on the commission website. “Everything must be done to ensure that the population benefits rapidly from the dividends of democracy. I am satisfied that the European Union has kept its promise to speed up the implementation of our projects, as I myself announced when I visited the country last February.”

Burkina Faso is working on its National Food and Nutrition Security Policy (PNSAN), designed to establish food sustainability by 2025 and reduce severe malnutrition.
