Ono Bikes is leading the charge in manufacturing electrically powered bicycles but it’s not neglecting human-powered traditional models, either.

With signature style bikes like the Archon, a 3-meter long easy rider bike, Ono Bikes is looking to make a name in sustainable transport. Many models are made of stainless steel and feature contoured designs – electronic or pedal-powered, these bikes are beautiful.

Ono Bikes, which is based in Belgrade, Serbia, is a collaboration between CEO Marko Scepanovic; Sasa Scepanovic, chief of design; Migati Sani, chief of operations; and their teams.

Marco Scepanovic spoke to Balkan Business Wire about the company’s growth and what it expects for the future.

Ono Bikes started out three and a half years ago and spent almost three years developing prototypes, he said.

“The different skills of each team member, close connections between us and love and passion for bikes is what helped us mostly on our way,” he said.

Scepanovic said Serbia is a great place to build one of these niche startups.

“Serbia’s bicycle culture and infrastructure is getting better and better every day, which is a great sign,” Scepanovic said. “Also, its startup ecosystem is developing rapidly, and young educated engineers now have an option of staying in Serbia, showing their talent and developing their skills.”

Early on, Ono Bikes bikes was all about establishing a brand, Scepanovic said. The next goal, he said, is to develop a business-to-business network to present products to a wider audience. The company is also working on its own battery pack technology, as well as components like controllers and motors for electro-bikes.

Ono Bikes uses its style to distinguish itself from a lot of the competition.

“Most of the modern transportation companies focuses mainly on technology, which is important,” Scepanovic said. “For us at Ono Bikes, apart from innovation and performance, there’s also a matter of style.”

The company is selling its bikes online, as it works toward re-inventing a classic transportation choice that’s becoming ever more popular today.
