The European Investment Bank (EIB), through its Economic Resilience Initiative Fund, is granting €2 million to support digital transformation in Montenegro’s schools. This initiative is part of the Montenegro Education Programme, with funding designated for purchasing digital tools like tablets, laptops, and projectors to improve learning conditions and promote digital literacy.

This grant is a segment of a larger €29 million investment by EIB Global in Montenegro’s educational sector. The overall investment includes an €18 million EIB loan, an €11 million EU grant under the Western Balkans Investment Framework, and a €2.5 million technical assistance grant.

A signing ceremony took place at the EIB Global headquarters in Luxemburg, where EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot and Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, Montenegro’s Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation, formalized the agreement. According to Robert de Groot, “The ICT equipment funded by this grant will foster increased digital usage and skills, broaden access to learning, and create a more engaging educational environment.” Anđela Jakšić Stojanović added that the new equipment “lays a solid foundation for digitalizing the educational process and equipping young people with essential 21st-century digital skills.”

EIB Global, the EIB Group’s arm dedicated to international partnerships and development finance, aims to support €100 billion in investment by the end of 2027. The Economic Resilience Initiative Fund, which supports this grant, was established to assist impactful projects in the Southern Neighbourhood and Western Balkans, addressing challenges related to displacement and migration.

EIB has been a long-term partner in Montenegro, facilitating investments primarily in SMEs, education, and transport infrastructure. The organization has provided nearly €1.1 billion in loans to date.
