Discord arises in Greece over insurance, tax issues for doctors, self-employed

The Council of State in Greece issued an appeal to the Medical Association for insurance contributions and expenses issued to self-employed individuals.

The appeal of the Medical Association says a recent decision is unconstitutional, illegal and against the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The issue is over Deputy Minister of Labor Anastasios Petropoulos’s decision that insurance contributions should be based on the net taxable income from the previous year. Due to issues in the wording, the calculations are based on income from two years ago.

Doctors in Athens have stated that the decision could impose even more tax on income that has already been taxed.
