Croatia Airlines has taken delivery of its second new Airbus A220-300 aircraft in Zagreb, continuing its fleet renewal project. This initiative began on July 30 with the arrival of the first of 15 new Airbus A220 planes. The airline plans to complete its fleet replacement by 2027.
The latest aircraft, named Split and registered as 9A-CAI, arrived from the Airbus plant in Mirabel, Canada. It will undergo necessary preparations at Zagreb Airport before entering service. “Born from a clean sheet design,” the Airbus A220 is noted for efficiency and reduced noise emissions. It serves the 100 to 150 seat market segment with a range up to 3,600 nautical miles.
Powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500 GTF engines, the A220 burns 25% less fuel per seat compared to older models and emits significantly less CO2 and nitrogen oxides. Its cabin design enhances passenger comfort with wider seats, more legroom, larger windows, and improved overhead storage.
Onboard amenities include high-speed Wi-Fi and charging ports at each seat. Air quality is maintained with HEPA filters renewing cabin air every few minutes.
Croatia Airlines expects six more A220s in 2025, four in 2026, and three in 2027. The final fleet will comprise 13 A220-300s and two smaller A220-100s.
This fleet renewal marks a new business development phase for Croatia Airlines alongside a refreshed visual identity emphasizing quality and hospitality. The updated logo aligns with their iconic tail design.
