Croatia Airlines has expanded its fleet with the arrival of a third Airbus A220-300 aircraft in Zagreb. The new addition, registered as 9A-CAL and named Vukovar, is part of the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal project that began last year. This aircraft was delivered directly from Airbus’s facility in Mirabel, Canada.
The latest delivery is part of an agreement with leasing company Azorra, which will provide Croatia Airlines with three new Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Jasmin Bajić, President and CEO of Croatia Airlines, expressed pride in welcoming the new aircraft: “We are delighted and proud to welcome our third new Airbus A220 aircraft, which will bear the name of the heroic Croatian city of Vukovar.”
Bajić highlighted that this addition supports network expansion and optimization of flight schedules. He also noted the introduction of five new international routes this season as a boost to Croatia’s tourism and economy. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners at Azorra, the lessor of the Vukovar aircraft, and the manufacturer Airbus for their excellent collaboration,” he added.
The Airbus A220 is designed for efficiency and reduced noise emissions. It offers advanced technology for improved performance and passenger experience. The model caters to markets requiring 100 to 160 seats, with a range capability up to 3,600 nautical miles or 6,700 kilometers.
Croatia Airlines plans to receive five more A220s in 2025 as part of its fleet renewal strategy scheduled for completion by 2027. By then, the airline aims to operate a total of fifteen new A220s—thirteen A220-300s seating 149 passengers each and two smaller A220-100s accommodating 127 passengers each.
