A new variety of cabbage is available for international trade thanks to a collaboration between the Innovation Fund and the Institute for of Vegetable Crops in Serbia.

The agreement is part of the IF’s Technology Transfer Facility (TTF), according to a press release from the Innovation Fund. This variety of cabbage has up to three times as much sugar as the average cabbage on the global market place and is well-suited to pickling. It also has a long shelf life.

The TTF’s role is to help commercialize the new cabbage. A grant of $12,290 is helping the institute file for intellectual property protection and equipment. It also helped find several seed companies that will be willing to help package and market the seeds globally.
