Following a successful working visit in June 2023, representatives from the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the city of Gdansk have strengthened their partnership with Burgas. Led by Deputy Marshal Leszek Bonna, Polish delegates and Bulgarian hosts signed agreements focusing on regional, economic, academic, and tourism cooperation. These included a joint action plan between Gdansk and Burgas and a cooperation agreement with the Association of Black Sea Municipalities in Bulgaria.
Today marks the beginning of a new phase as a delegation from Burgas visits Gdansk for the opening ceremony of the new air connection season between these cities. On June 2, Gdansk Airport will welcome its first direct flight from Burgas this year. The event includes a water salute, passenger reception, and press conference featuring both cities’ mayors, Ambassador Margarita Ganeva of Bulgaria to Poland, and Pomeranian Voivodeship representatives.
Scheduled flights starting early June 2025 aim to enhance tourism, business, cultural exchanges, and academic ties between these regions. The partnership exemplifies successful cross-border cooperation within the EU.
During summer 2025, Burgas Airport will offer direct flights to nine Polish destinations: Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Krakow, Lodz, Lublin, Poznan, Rzeszow, and Wroclaw. This reinforces its role in Bulgarian-Polish air connectivity. Nine airlines operate flights between Burgas and Poland: Ryanair; LOT – Polish Airlines; Buzz; WizzAir; Enter Air; AMC Aviation; Electra Airways; Smartwings; Sky Up. The flight program began on March 30 with Ryanair’s inaugural flight from Krakow. Recently Poland has become an important market for Burgas Airport with passenger traffic exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
