Burgas and Varna airports report serving over three million passengers in 2024

The airports in Burgas and Varna collectively served 3.4 million passengers in 2024, handling over 25,000 flights from a total of 73 airlines to more than 146 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Burgas Airport marked a milestone on August 7 by welcoming its one-millionth passenger for the year. Throughout 2024, the airport accommodated 1.8 million passengers with flight operations involving 56 airlines to 90 destinations. The United Kingdom topped the list of countries with the most passengers at Burgas Airport, followed by Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Israel. The leading destinations included London, Prague, Warsaw, Manchester, and Katowice. Six new airlines began operations at Burgas Airport along with four new routes: Liverpool, České Budějovice, Karlovy Vary, and Salzburg. In total, Burgas Airport managed 12,902 flights last year—5,996 were regularly scheduled while 5,152 were charter flights. July and August saw the highest traffic volumes at the airport.

Varna Airport celebrated its significant moment on September 4 when it welcomed its 1,111,111th passenger of the year. More than 1.5 million passengers traveled through Varna Airport in 2024 with flight services from 52 airlines to 108 destinations. Germany led as the country with most passengers traveling through Varna Airport followed by Bulgaria itself as well as Poland, Austria, and Türkiye. Top destinations included Sofia and Vienna alongside international locations such as London and Istanbul. The airport recorded a total of 12,282 flights last year—8,383 were regular schedules while charter flights accounted for another significant portion.
