Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD has unveiled a new outdoor gate zone at Burgas Airport, Bulgaria. This initiative marks a significant enhancement in terminal capacity along the Black Sea coast. The development complements the Gate Garden at Varna Airport, making these two coastal airports the first in Europe to offer fully equipped open-air gate areas.

The newly inaugurated gate zone spans 2,200 square meters and increases total gate-area space by 40%. With two operational gates now open, Burgas Airport’s departure capacity has risen by nearly 20%. When an additional two gates become operational in 2026, overall handling capacity will increase by 35%.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD’s management team, including Ms. Denitza Weismantel, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board; Mr. Michael Reusch, CEO; and Mr. Vasil Atanasov, Director of Burgas Airport. Notable guests included Mr. Vladimir Krumov, Regional Governor of Burgas Region, and Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas.

A traditional blessing was performed by His Eminence Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven during the ribbon-cutting ceremony to ensure prosperity and safety for the airport and its staff.

The project is part of a joint investment exceeding €9.5 million from Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD and commercial partners Nuance BG (part of Avolta Group) and Lagardère Travel Retail.

“This investment demonstrates our long-term vision for sustainable growth, improved passenger service, and operational excellence in Bulgaria’s coastal airports,” stated Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star.

This development strengthens Burgas Airport’s role as a modern gateway on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with enhanced capacity and a distinctive travel experience.
