Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD has announced plans for a comprehensive rehabilitation of the runway at Burgas Airport, scheduled for the winter of 2025/26. The project will involve an investment exceeding 50 million euros to ensure safety and prepare the airport for year-round traffic starting in 2026.

The current runway, originally constructed in 1962 and upgraded in 1980, requires significant updates due to its age and condition. “Safety is the main unconditional priority for the company,” stated Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD. The planned rehabilitation aims to support expected traffic volumes over the next two decades.

To minimize disruption during peak tourist seasons, construction will occur exclusively from November 2025 to April 2026. In preparation for summer operations in 2025, three weeks of maintenance are also scheduled for March, traditionally a low-traffic period.

The total investment will cover not only the runway but also surrounding areas, drainage systems, and a new airfield lighting system. Additional funds will be allocated to upgrade apron areas. This initiative aligns with commitments outlined in the Master Plan 2022-2026 and involves collaboration with experienced specialists from Fraport Group and external companies.

Since taking over the concession in 2006, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD has invested over 110 million euros into Burgas Airport infrastructure. The company’s goal is to enhance Burgas Airport as a modern facility that attracts airlines and passengers while boosting year-round connectivity.

Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD pledges ongoing communication with media, municipalities, and tourism stakeholders about future developments at Burgas Airport.
