As part of an economic mission in Central America, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) and representatives from Romanian companies met with Volney Guinard Estripeaut, Secretary General of the Maritime Administration of Panama. The discussions highlighted offshore wind energy as a primary area for potential cooperation between Romania and Panama.
Mihai Daraban, President of the CCIR, stated, “There is a common interest of the two states to cooperate in the field of offshore wind energy, this industry representing a major component in the development strategy of the Maritime Administration of the Republic of Panama, with an emphasis on the construction of facilities appropriate to the geographical profile of this country." He noted that Romanian companies are already engaged in advanced discussions with Panamanian partners about collaborative projects. Daraban also mentioned that CCIR's role is to facilitate connections between business communities and support Romanian businesses in accessing significant commercial markets.
Volney Guinard Estripeaut expressed appreciation for CCIR's efforts in organizing such events and stressed the importance of Romanian expertise in renewable energy. He remarked, “We must take into account the fact that the National Energy Plan of the Republic of Panama 2015-2050 establishes that, by 2030, approximately 15% of energy should come from renewable sources, and by 2050 this percentage should rise to 50%.”
