The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, met with the new Ambassador of India to Romania, Manika Jain, on February 5, 2025. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral economic relations by identifying sectors that could be promoted among business communities to increase trade value.

Daraban highlighted that despite the trade between Romania and India reaching over 1.6 billion euros in 2023, the economic relationship remains underutilized. He stated, "From our point of view, that of the National Chamber...the economic relationship between Romania and India is insufficiently exploited." He pointed out Romania's strategic location with access to the Black Sea as a potential opportunity for Indian businesses to facilitate goods transport to Europe.

He further noted existing collaborations in high-potential sectors such as IT&C with a focus on artificial intelligence, aerospace industry, and civil and military aeronautics. Daraban mentioned other Romanian sectors could also attract Indian investors through regular dialogue with India's Embassy in Romania.

Ambassador Jain emphasized that this meeting was a priority for boosting economic ties between the two countries' business communities. She noted that currently "486 companies with Indian capital are operating in Romania" and expressed confidence that this number would grow following their discussions. Jain added infrastructure as another sector where both nations could undertake large-scale joint projects.
