The President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, met with Gudsi Osmanov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Romania, on November 6th. The meeting focused on exploring bilateral economic relations between Romania and Azerbaijan.
Mihai Daraban highlighted the importance of economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly noting the presence of Azerbaijani businesspeople in Romania. He stressed that opportunities in the energy sector were a priority.
“The excellent relationships developed over time between our business communities, along with the major challenges we currently face regarding European energy independence, compel us to revisit the AGRI (Azerbaijan – Georgia – Romania Interconnector) project. Azerbaijan’s contribution, combined with the efforts of European states in this new phase, could position AGRI as a cornerstone of European energy security. From our side, we will leverage our dialogue with the European Commission and our counterparts in the European chamber system to genuinely advance this vital project,” stated Mihai Daraban.
Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov acknowledged the strong bilateral relations and invited Mihai Daraban to lead a delegation to Azerbaijan. “We eagerly await the Romanian delegation’s visit to strengthen governmental and business collaboration. We will ensure that the CCIR delegation has access to high-level contacts in Baku. Azerbaijan offers significant opportunities, and the bilateral relationship is supported by contributions from companies like SOCAR, whose activity has fostered new economic partnerships,” remarked Ambassador Osmanov.
