The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, recently met with Andrew D. Lebkuecher, Economic Officer at the US Embassy in Romania. The meeting focused on Romania's potential integration into the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Mihai Daraban expressed gratitude for the support from the United States as a strategic partner to Romania in its efforts to join the OECD. "We particularly appreciate the support that the USA, as a strategic partner of Romania, offers to our country regarding the accession to the OECD, a process of vital importance for the national economy," he stated.

Daraban highlighted the need for Romania to regain credibility in foreign markets such as those in the US, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. He emphasized that attracting foreign investments tailored to Romanian consumer needs is crucial. Additionally, he pointed out that increased involvement from the Romanian state is necessary for adopting international standards related to fiscal transparency. "By joining the OECD, Romania will benefit from the expertise and resources of this organization, including analyzes and recommendations regarding economic and social policies," added Daraban.

Andrew D. Lebkuecher underscored the significance of cooperation between the U.S. Embassy and CCIR as part of their bilateral economic relations. "The cooperation between the U.S. Embassy and CCIR is an important part of our bilateral economic cooperation, and we look forward to continuing to work with groups like CCIR to support American investment and continued economic growth in Romania," he said.
