The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban, met with the new Head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, George J. Schultzel, on September 25 to discuss ongoing collaboration in combating cyber-attacks.
“Cyber-attacks continue to represent a big problem not only for companies in Romania, but also for those around the world, with statistical data indicating an increase from year to year. For the Romanian business environment, there is a need for actions to prevent cyber-attacks and not measures to be implemented after they have occurred. At the CCIR level, we are very concerned about this problem, and over time we have organized seminars and meetings with experts in the field, Romanian and foreign, to prepare the business environment against cyber-attacks. We are glad that the specialists from the FBI rely on Romanian Chambers of Commerce infrastructure and wish to continue the collaboration regarding the organization of such events. As always, we are ready to offer them all the support for the promotion of relevant initiatives among the business community in Romania,” said Mihai Daraban.
“Collaboration with CCIR in the field of raising awareness at the level of the Romanian business environment of the serious problems generated by cyber-attacks is already a tradition, the first event on this topic being organized in 2021. Naturally, we want this partnership to continue, considering these actions are increasing and the methods by which companies are being cyber-attacked are more and more diversified. We want to focus especially on small and medium-sized companies, those that suffer extremely from this point of view, those for which a malware or ransomware attack, database theft can even mean the end of business activity,” said George J. Schultzel.
