In our interconnected world, tourism is an industry that breaks down barriers and transcends stereotypes, inviting everyone to explore, connect, and experience the beauty of shared humanity.
World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually on September 27 since 1980. This date marks the adoption of the UN Tourism Statute in 1970. This year, the global observance is themed "Tourism and Peace," highlighting tourism's role in fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and harmony between nations.
Tourism is a significant economic sector in Slovenia, contributing 5.4% to the nation's GDP and providing 6.3% of all jobs. The focus this year is on tourism's role in an increasingly connected and interdependent world. It is an industry built by people for people – strengthening mutual understanding, breaking down stereotypes, and overcoming prejudices. Tourism opens doors to new cultures, introduces different languages, offers unique culinary experiences, and fosters connections with people globally. It promotes tolerance and acceptance of diversity.
The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) invites everyone to explore a special webpage dedicated to celebrating World Tourism Day. On this page, visitors can read or listen to messages from Matjaž Han, Minister of Economy, Tourism, and Sport; Zurab Pololikashvili, UNWTO Secretary-General; and MSc Maja Pak Olaj, Director of the STB.
Additionally, detailed information about this year's tourism results is available on the webpage. Visitors can also find an overview of various events happening across Slovenia on World Tourism Day along with inspiring stories about Slovenian tourism related to the central theme.
