Macedonian Center for International Cooperation issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.
The Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC), together with CIVICUS and the Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN), expressed concern about the institutional harassment of civil society organizations receiving foreign funding .
As part of the Universal Periodic Report of the United Nations (UN) on Human Rights in Macedonia, they made recommendations for the protection and promotion of civil society's rights in the country . Despite the recent improvement in respect for civil liberties, the three organizations address the constraints faced by investigative journalists and the media.
The CIVICUS MONITOR, which analyzes and compares the civil society requirements for all UN member states, assesses civil society in Macedonia as limited. See how Macedonia compares with other key countries participating in the same UN human rights review, scheduled for January 2019.
