European Parliament recently issued the following announcement on July 16.
This year the winner is Refugees Welcome – Crawley, who received the award at Europe House London on Monday 25 June 2018.
Refugees Welcome – Crawley has been recently set up in conjunction with Citizens UK as part of their resettlement campaign. The group aims to counter some of the local negative narratives about refugees, support those refugees currently in hotels in Crawley and encourage local councils to take refugees as part of the government’s plan to house vulnerable Syrian refugees.
Catherine Bearder, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South East, who nominated the group, said:
"I am delighted to present Refugees Welcome Crawley with the European Citizens' Prize.
“Refugees Welcome Crawley have been doing fantastic and essential work at helping these desperate and vulnerable people feel welcome and integrated into their new communities."
Refugees Welcome - Crawley represents the award’s core tenants of facilitating cross-border cooperation within the EU and promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration between citizens and member states.
The European Parliament Liaison Office in London extends its warmest congratulations to Refugees Welcome - Crawley and commends them on their amazing work that is truly reflective of a society united in diversity.
