European Union High Representative Federica Mogherini recently traveled to the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York City to meet with key leaders and deliver her annual debrief to the UN Security Council.
Mogherini used the trip as an opportunity to hold discussions with prominent UN officials, including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, according to a press release. Mogherini also conducted bilateral meetings with Security Council President and Uruguay Ambassador Elbio Rosselli and U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
In addition,she met with the EU’s ambassadors to the UN and celebrated Europe Day with Guterres and other UN officials.
Mogherini’s trip is a reiteration of the EU’s commitment to multilateralism and an expression of the esteem the Union holds for the UN’s partnership, the release stated. The EU views the UN as an indispensable tool for international and global cooperation, allowing countries to partner to address the world’s challenges.
