Clinical work is serious business, and doctors need all of
the resources they can get.
Sometimes, national health care systems can seem
chaotic, and some doctors find it hard to network and build supports for their
work. The rapid changes inherent in the medical world can put pressure on
health care professionals.
Among Doctors is trying to help doctors feel more empowered
to handle the modern world of health care by promoting the idea of medicine as
a “team sport.” This early-stage digital startup is creating a key network
service for physicians and health care professionals.
Among Doctors founder and
CEO Elena Barla spoke to Balkan Business Wire about the mission of the company and how it's moving
forward.
“Networking among physicians … is broken,” Barla said.
“Doctors use limited offline networks, costly medical conferences and/or
exposed social media in order to network, share knowledge and exchange
opinions. Among Doctors solves this by providing a revolutionary global
networking and collaboration platform, exclusive only to licensed physicians,
which helps them connect and work with reliable colleagues of all specialties across the globe in a secure and relevant way.”
Other challenges include a global physician
shortage as recorded by the World Health Organization, as well as issues with
physician burnout and the poor quality of care in some systems, Barla said.
"On one hand, many hospitals and medical centers cannot meet their
personnel needs, even in developed countries, while on the other hand, many
doctors cannot find work in their country and wish to develop their career
abroad, where they have better opportunities,” Barla said. “We help both ends
to solve this, by providing a reliable and effective way for both employers and
doctors to address their hiring needs, and connecting international
institutions with a targeted, verified and highly engaged international
community of doctors.”
Barla said although Among Doctors is spread out across Europe,
it has major operations in Greece, where the company was incubated at the
Microsoft Innovation Center. She cited a large community of quality medical
professionals there.
“Greece offers … a large pool of highly skilled
professionals in a less expensive context compared to other European countries,”
Barla said.
As for the future, Barla said Among Doctors hopes to
leverage extensive growth to keep on focusing on what the medical industry
needs.
