The European Commission has approved General Electric Co.'s acquisition of LM Wind Power of Denmark.
General Electric produces wind turbines for onshore and offshore use, while LM Wind Power designs and manufactures blades for wind turbines used by GE and other companies.
The European Commission investigated whether the market would still be competitive if
General Electric
owned LM Wind Power, according to a commission release. It concluded that, since
General Electric
has a relatively small market share, competition is not an issue because other blade manufacturers are available, and
General Electric
will not have significant impact on the upstream market.
General Electric's GE Renewable Energy is the business unit that produces wind turbines for global use. LM Wind Power sells turbine blades globally.
