Municipalities throughout Greece will now be able to offer
citizens electronic services through an Android application, thanks to a
development from Altec Software’s Research Programs Division.
The first municipality to take advantage of the application
is Kordelio-Evosmos, in Thessaloniki, which is using the app to offer new and
innovative services that, for those with the app downloaded on their devices,
are automatically accessed.
The app lets citizens access general services from their
devices, based on the eGovernment services that many municipalities already
offer through their own portals. It also gives municipalities the opportunity
to customize the range of services offered, making it simpler for them to
highlight services available to groups such as people with disabilities, the
elderly, unemployed people and immigrants. Further, the app enables citizens to
take advantage of connection services made available through networking
applications.
The app is free to download and available on the Android
Marketplace. Those interested in downloading it must have an Android smartphone
or tablet.
Altec Software hopes that the app will assist municipalities
facing tough budgetary restrictions to address citizen needs in new, innovative
ways that directly connect citizens to their services.
