Yiannis Boutari, the
mayor of the Greek municipality of Thessaloniki, recently refused the
resignation of Thomas Psaras, Thessaloniki’s secretary general and
head of Civil Protection, who submitted it following problems caused
by a recent snow storm.
The storm, described
as paralyzing for the city, caused road and school closures, the
diversion of flights going into the area and damage to the
municipality’s water supply network.
Psaras took
responsibility for the city’s response, thus tendering his
resignation, but Boutari refused to accept it.
