The recently concluded American University of Bulgaria (AUBG) Olympics, which invites university students from throughout the country to compete in a range of events, was the largest iteration of the games yet.
This year was the 12th annual edition of the AUBG Olympics, the largest college athletic competition in Bulgaria. The games raised funds for a charitable cause, with this years’ contributions going toward the construction of an ecobuilding in Sofia where disabled athletes will be able to store their sports equipment.
That cause was inspired by Mihail Hristov, a Paralympic athlete who has won the gold in broad jump three times. Hristov presented medals to Plamen Kostov, the AUBG Olympics competitor who won the most medals.
This year saw record participation in the games, demonstrated by the 120-strong marathon field, a four-fold increase in participants from previous years.
“I would like to express my gratitude towards the entire AUBG community, who helped to make this year’s AUBG Olympics such a huge and wonderful event,” AUBG Olympics Vice President Tomislav Marinov said in a press release.
